I’m not a fan of commercial fashion photography on the whole; it seems to be split between lazy uncreative bastards who reel out the same crap year on year with whatever hackneyed setup or photographic treatment is in that season. But this shot (an ad for John Lewis of all things) has stood out relentlessly. It’s massively retouched but what a shot. The eyes have it. This is when model photography works! BAM!!! Heart Stoppa! Look at the size of her head in comparison to her body? It’s an old portrait artist trick - something I noticed in one of the finest portraits (IMHO) in the National - Lady Elizabeth Gertrude Blood (go check it out)…her legs are twice the length of her upper body so when you look up at the portrait it’s in perspective.
